We started by
reading this book called ( Oh, No Mo, Say no to bulling). The book is about a
new boy who has joined new school in Australia as he moved with his
family from England.
The boy of course
had a British accent and uncommon name which made other boys in school to make
fun of him and did not want to be friends with him.
I had the same
problem in my class as there was a new Korean boy who stayed with us for just 2
weeks (school holidays in Korea). I found this book very helpful to start group
discussion about how to be a good friend. I was lucky enough to have this mail
box which was donated by one of the parents to create The Friendship Mail Box.
I explained to my
children that we are going to write letters to our friends in the class and
tell them why do we like to be friends with them and every morning during our
group time we will check the mail box and see who's got mail.
This is the book that we read during our group time.
Children enjoyed writing to their friends.
Writing on the envelope.
They were so excited to put the letters in the mailbox to their friends.
